Now that I am a Christian what should I expect?

  • You need to grow in Christ

The first thing you must understand is that you are a spiritual baby. A baby must grow if it is to be healthy.

Fellowship with Christians

As a baby needs help so will you. Someone who can feed them, help them when they fall and     carry them when they get weary. In the same way as a new baby in Christ, you need to find a good church so that they can feed you spiritual food to grow. (The Bible says)  1 Peter 2:2 – “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” As a Babe in  Christ you need to learn the simple things of the Christian faith. (I would suggest starting by reading the book of John in the Bible. It is the fourth book in the New Testament.)

As you grow in Christ, you will be able to learn things that you might not be able to handle as a baby. The Bible says that He (the Holy Spirit) will Guide you in truth. The Bible says in John 16: 13, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth….”

As a baby needs help in order to walk, so will you. There will be many times that you will be tempted to go back to your old life. And you will sin. As a Christian you may fall into sin, but you should never go back to living in sin. The Bible says in I John 1:9,  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Finding good Christian friends in church will fill the empty feeling of being rejected by your old   non-Christian friends, who are not rejecting you, but Jesus.  The Bible says,  “If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” John 15:18

  • You need to spend time with God

Prayer and Bible reading

If you love someone you want to spend time with them. Pray even if you don’t know how. You may memorize the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory,

forever and ever. Amen.”

When a baby is born, they can only communicate with emotions, crying when they have a need or laughing when they are happy. As they grow, they eventually start speaking. Usually it is ‘dada’ or ‘momma’. Those first words really bring joy to a parent. In the same way God understands your emotions, even if you cannot put it into words. He too is happy when you start to communicate verbally.

Attend Bible teaching will help you grow in faith.

The Bible says in Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of    God”.  It is not only important that we study the Bible, we need to hear the Bible and how it  applies to our daily lives.

As you share your faith you must use the Bible as your basis of truth.

The Bible says,  “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

The Bible says, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Colossians 2:8

If you use philosophy as your argument, you will be trapped by what is called “circular reasoning”, which is based only on viewpoints and not on truth. We believe that the Bible is immutable truth, which means that the truth in the Bible never changes with culture. If  something was wrong  according to the Bible 1000 years ago, it is wrong today. If something was right according to the Bible 1000 years ago, it is right today.

  • Understand that you have a spiritual enemy

The Bible says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

Your whole life you were taught that everything that happened to you was either by chance or in the natural realm. Now as a Christian, you need to realize that there is a real devil and demonic forces, and we need spiritual help from God to defeat them.

  • Don’t be afraid to share your faith

The Bible says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

Acts 1:8 says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the  uttermost part of the earth.”

Understand that not all people who claim to be Christians are.

The Bible says in Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s  clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

The Bible calls false teachers wolves that dress up to look like sheep.

If a teacher claims that the Bible is just a great book but not the Word of God, they are wolves!

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” I will be putting out a video that shows that the Bible had to be given by God and not written by men because some of the things that were written in the Bible were not discovered for thousands of years after it was written. The Bible says in Job 38:7, “When the morning stars sang together”. Scientists have just discovered that stars make humming noises. The larger the star the deeper the hum, and a smaller star makes a higher sound. How could a person thousands of years ago know that stars made harmonic and rhythmic sounds? God told them.

If a teacher tells you there are many ways to God, they are wolves. John 14:6 says, “Jesus saith   unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

The Bible says in 1 John 4: 1-3, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”

The Bible says in II Timothy 3:5, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.”

If a teacher tells you that God is a loving God and would never judge sin, they are wolves!

The Bible says in Daniel 12:2, “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”

The Bible says in Revelation 20:15, “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

If a teacher tells you that God created the universe, but it took Him billions of years, (this is called theistic evolution), they are wolves!

The Bible says in Genesis 1: 1- 5, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

These are just a few examples of what false teachers will teach. The Bible says, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Mathew 7:20.

  • Finally we must live as though Jesus could come back at any time.

The Bible says in 2 Peter 3:10,  “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night…”
